Leigh Extence
Leigh Extence comes from a long line of Devon antique dealers and originally trained as a clockmaker before becoming manager of the Antique Clock department in Harrods in Knightsbridge.
Leigh then moved to Kent to work as right-hand man to renowned clock authority and author Derek Roberts, helping set up and catalogue their famed horological exhibitions as well as travelling extensively abroad as an ambassador for the business.
In 1990, after a lecture tour in Switzerland, Leigh returned to Devon to set up on his own account and, at their formation, joined Hampton & Littlewood as their horological consultant.
Leigh has previously acted as a consultant for Taunton based auctioneers Greenslade, Taylor, Hunt.
For a number of years, Leigh was the antique clock specialist on the BBC2’s 'The Antiques Show' advising, writing scripts and featuring numerous times.
Leigh also contributes articles for a number of leading antiques magazines, newspapers and websites. He has a passion for research and holds one of the country's largest private libraries of horological books, journals and papers.
In 2004, Leigh was elected a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and has since been promoted to the Livery. He is also an elected member of the British Horological Institute.
Outside of the clock world, Leigh is a keen golfer, skier and rower as well as an avid supporter of his local football team, Torquay United.
