You may remember me writing last week about the interesting collection of Samuel Taylor Coleridge lots that we were including in the Antiquarian Book Auction on 20th March 2013 at our Dowell Street Saleroom in Honiton, Devon. Well yesterday, they went under the hammer.
The star of the show was the Samuel Taylor Coleridge family bible (BK9/131), which as I suspected, after being fiercly contested achieved a final hammer price of £5,500.

The second lot in the Samuel Taylor Coleridge collection to really fly and exceed all expectations was a collection of papers, letters, a notebook, etc, from William Hart Coleridge (1789-1849) (nephew of Samuel Taylor Coleridge) and the Bishop of Barbados (BK9/380). The lot included a silhouette of him and his notebook of 221 inscribed pages, primarily concerned with his life in the West Indies.

The last entry in this notebook was dated Oct 22nd 1825. This was an important collection, as in addition to the official documents and letters, there are many personal items, supplemented with his notebook and this collection could form the basis of a biography of WH Coleridge. The hammer price for this interesting and unique lot was £3,200.
