Robert Lenkiewicz - Girl with Blonde Hair - sold for £9800 (FS17/480)

This was an iconographic Lenkiewicz portrait of a nude with the figure filling the picture, typically closely observed with dramatic blonde hair highlighted with flashes of gold and bright yellow against a black ground. The portrait depicts an intense and intimate moment and the confident handling of strong colours, tone and texture are Lenkiewicz trademarks. Not all Lenkiewicz portraits are as valuable as this. One of the last projects Lenkiewicz worked on was titled Addictive Behaviour and this produced hundreds of portraits; some highly finished monumental works, but many were less intense and not so worked-up. A large number of these were sold in the Lenkiewicz Studio sales in 2004 and 2008 and the few have come back onto the market have had mixed results. In our sale in April we are offering a Portrait of Michael Howells by Robert Lenkiewicz which was bought for £3800 in 2008 and this time round has an estimate of £800-1200
