'Fan'tastic: Fans Coming Back into Fashion!

A 19th century English fan fetched £180 (FS12/663)

There was a diverse collection of fans available in this Sale. Anything from a 19th century English fan with printed and painted paper leaf that sold for £180, to a Chinese pierced tortoiseshell brise fan that realised £1,950.

Fans are slowly coming back as an area for collecting and Chinese carved ivory brise fans are being avidly bought by the Chinese. Several examples were included in our Sale with examples of single and double sided carved ivory fans, prices ranging from £170 up to £500. The most outrageous fan was a Black Ostrich feather fan contained in a gilt frame that fetched £350.
