The Buildings of England Series

Under the guidance of the General Editor Nikolaus Pevsner, he along with the poet John Betjamin were almost solely responsible for bringing to the public awareness to the wholesale destruction to our historic buildings, under the drive for everything new and modern following the Second World War.

The series is intended to continue until all the counties of England are covered. It gives full particulars of the architectural features of all ecclesiastical, public and domestic buildings of interest in each town and village of the county concerned and of the furnishings of churches.

This series helped to foster an aesthetic appreciation of our ‘Old’ buildings.

The set being offered in the Antiquarian book Auction in Honiton, Devon on 21st August 2013 comprises of 31 volumes and is expected to fetch between £60-£100 when it goes under the hammer, although this is probably a somewhat conservative estimate.
